herstory

terrice bassler draws upon deep experience as a leader who supports others. Through her global journey and lifelong learning, she has become a curator of wisdom and resources for self-understanding, meeting challenge with resilience, finding purpose and meaning in how we live.

Her career began at the World Bank, where she contributed to its earliest investments in China. She led the Bank’s first loans for schooling in Romania and Albania, as they evolved beyond harsh regimes. In 1996, George Soros invited terrice to join the Open Society Foundations network, where she designed and directed support to education visionaries in transition countries and hot spots. From this role, terrice edited Learning to Change, a collection of first-person narratives by activist-observers across the former Yugoslavia and neighbouring Southeast Europe, where schools were inter-connected with resistance, democracy-building and societal healing. She held executive and senior advisory posts for months or years at a time in Hungary, Albania, Slovenia, Kosovo and South Africa.

Since 2008, terrice has provided service independently. Her client portfolio includes the United Nations Foundation, European Council on Foreign Relations, International Baccalaureate, The Elders, Girls Not Brides, VOW for Girls, More in Common, and other diverse start-up enterprises, special initiatives and individual leaders.

terrice is a graduate of McGill University and the Trachtenberg School of Public Policy. She trained in co-active coaching with CTI and is a certified Provider of TRE, a self-care practice for activating the body’s natural neurogenic tremoring to release tension and trauma.

Born and raised in rural upstate NY, terrice is nowadays at home in British Columbia, where she balances service to clients and community with hands-on making as a studio potter. A year-round ocean swimmer, e-biker and kayaker, terrice experiences daily awe amidst the coastal beauty of Vancouver Island.

In 2023, terrice journeyed to the Cradle of Humankind in South Africa for a residency in ceramics and community service, hosted by NIROX and FARMHOUSE58.
